Positive Displacement Pumps for Poultry Processing

NETZSCH Pumps USA will exhibit at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) 2026, taking place from January 27–29 in Atlanta, Georgia. At Booth B50021, the company will showcase a range of positive displacement pump technologies designed to address the complex rheological and hygienic requirements of poultry processing lines.

Pumping challenges in poultry processing
Poultry processing involves handling products with widely varying viscosities, solids content, and shear sensitivity, ranging from raw meat and offal to batters, marinades, oils, and rehydrating liquids. Equipment used in these environments must support gentle product transfer, precise flow control, and compliance with stringent hygienic standards, while also integrating into automated processing and clean-in-place workflows.

NETZSCH’s exhibit will focus on progressing cavity, twin-screw, and peristaltic pump technologies engineered to meet these operational constraints.

Progressing cavity pumps for solids-bearing products
NEMO progressing cavity pumps are designed to convey low- to highly viscous products with or without entrained solids. In poultry applications, they are used for transferring ground meat, trimmings, offal, and organ material over long distances while maintaining product integrity.

The low-pulsation conveying principle supports stable flow through inline inspection equipment such as X-ray detection systems, which are used to identify and reject contaminants including bone fragments or metallic particles. This makes the technology suitable for integration into quality-control-critical sections of meat processing lines.

Twin-screw pumps for batters and liquids
For handling batters, seasonings, sauces, and oils, NETZSCH will highlight its sanitary twin-screw pump technology. These pumps feature all-stainless-steel construction and are available in multiple frame sizes to support different throughput requirements.

Design characteristics include rapid disassembly for inspection, operation across a wide speed range of up to 3,600 rpm, bidirectional flow capability, and the ability to pump entrained air. The pumps can function as both process pumps and CIP pumps, reducing equipment redundancy. Optional configurations include jacketed housings, enlarged inlets, and full service-in-place (FSIP) capability, supporting thermal control and advanced hygiene strategies.

Peristaltic pumps as alternatives to AODD systems
The PERIPRO heavy-duty peristaltic pump range will be presented as an alternative to air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps for certain poultry processing applications. These food-grade pumps are used for transferring thickening agents, rehydrating solutions, and colour or flavour-enhancing liquids.

The pumps are equipped with sanitary fittings, stainless steel front covers, and baseplates, and are available with hose diameters from ½ inch to 4 inches. Flow capacities range from approximately 0.9 to 158 gallons per minute, enabling use in both dosing and bulk transfer applications.

Hygiene, standards compliance, and cleanability
All NETZSCH sanitary pumps on display are manufactured in accordance with FDA sanitary requirements, certified to 3-A Sanitary Standards, and designed to meet EHEDG guidelines. Polished internal surfaces are used to minimise product residue and reduce the risk of pathogen development.

Each pump type supports clean-in-place operation, enabling efficient sanitation without disassembly and supporting high plant availability in continuous poultry processing environments.

Through its IPPE 2026 exhibit, NETZSCH Pumps USA will demonstrate how different positive displacement pump technologies can be applied across poultry processing lines to address product variability, hygiene compliance, and integration into modern, automated production systems.
