Delta Expands AX-5 Automation Platform with Integrated Functional Safety for Smarter Machine Automation

Delta, a global leader in power management and smart green solutions, today announced the AX-5 Functional Safety System for the EMEA market. Expanding Delta’s AX-5 automation platform, the new solution fully integrates functional safety and standard automation into a single architecture. Comprising a Safety Controller, Safety Digital Input module and Safety Digital Output module, the system uses Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) communication to help machine builders and system integrators simplify engineering, reduce wiring complexity, accelerate machine development, and create more flexible and scalable machine architectures.

Complete functional safety for machine automation
The AX-5 Functional Safety System combines three core components to provide an integrated functional safety solution. The AX-500SC00-0S Safety Controller provides safety control for the AX-5 I/O series, while the AX-504AM20-0S Safety Digital Input Module and AX-504AN02-0S Safety Digital Output Module each provide four PNP digital channels. All three devices support Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) communication and meet the requirements of SIL3.
Flexible safety architecture with reduced wiring complexity
Using FSoE-based safety communication, the AX-5 Functional Safety System provides a modern alternative to conventional hardwired safety architectures. This approach reduces wiring complexity and can lower installation effort while simplifying machine commissioning. It also gives machine builders greater flexibility to adapt safety architectures to different machine configurations and expand them as application requirements evolve.
Simplified engineering within Delta’s automation ecosystem
The new system enables safety and standard PLC programming within a single development environment, simplifying engineering and helping streamline machine development. Customers can integrate functional safety using Delta’s AX Series controllers, together with I/O modules, servo drives, HMI panels and software to create a unified and scalable automation architecture while reducing the complexity associated with managing separate standard and safety control environments.
