Our theme "Connected solutions for sustainable seafood," underscored our commitment to providing innovative and interconnected solutions that promote sustainability throughout the seafood industry. We were thrilled to join the vibrant atmosphere at the 30th edition Seafood Processing Global show in Barcelona from April 23 to 25, where we witnessed record-breaking attendance with over 35,000 seafood professionals, making it the largest show yet. Our expansive booth was a hub of innovation and discussion as visitors explored our latest advancements in seafood processing, shared industry trends and engaged in conversations about their unique business needs.

Our captivating demonstrations offered attendees a firsthand glimpse into how Marel solutions elevate efficiency and sustainability in seafood processing. From filleting to portioning, skinning to slicing, grading to weighing, visitors experienced the transformative benefits of our equipment with live demonstrations featuring real fish and dummy products. Adding a flavorful touch, our two skilled chefs prepared delicious seafood tapas, giving our guests a taste of the culinary possibilities enabled by Marel equipment. At our booth, we unveiled the latest addition to the FleXicut family: the FleXicut Jet, tailored for processors specializing in bone-out fillets. Additionally, we showcased the innovative machine subscription feature, a groundbreaking addition to the FleXicut product line. This feature detects gaping in fillets and promptly takes action by rejecting any fillets or portions that fall short of the quality parameters defined by the customer.

What were the hot topics and trends?

At the show, we immersed ourselves in the latest trends driving the seafood industry, and one thing was clear: convenience and customization are leading the way. As online grocery shopping continues to surge, convenience has become paramount. Ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook products, along with portioned, filleted, and sliced options, are now the go-to choices for seafood consumers in Europe and the United States. But it's not just about convenience. Today’s consumers are increasingly conscious of what they eat. They want food products that can be traced to their origins, and opting for organic and fresh products whenever possible. In this evolving landscape, automated processing equipment emerges as the game-changer, promising improved yield, consistent product quality, and a competitive edge. While manual operations require ongoing training and skills maintenance, they often suffer from declining daily performance. In contrast, well-maintained machinery, monitored and controlled through software, offers unparalleled consistency and efficiency, empowering seafood processors to thrive in an ever-changing market.
