One of Brazil’s leading poultry food processors, São Salvador Alimentos, has set itself an ambitious target for 2024 for its Nova Veneza plant in Goiás, Brazil, which will account for some 80% of its investments. To achieve this, it has chosen Marel as its strategic partner. The Nuova-i eviscerator is one of the key systems in the factory.
Built in 2020, the Nova Veneza plant exports to more than 30 countries. SSA’s goal is for the facility to reach the same levels as Itaberaí (Brazil), which exports to more than 170 countries.
Controlling the process
“We chose Marel because we trust that this equipment, with its top technology and performance, will ensure that the plant reaches the projected processing capacity,” says SSA’s Project Manager, Marcel Fogaça. “We are not just acquiring equipment; we are investing in a complete solution which will bring more innovation and safety, both operationally and in terms of food quality. Our goal is to ensure that the best product reaches the customer’s table. For us, controlling the whole process is fundamental. It ensures that our product is delivered to consumers to a standard in line with our principles and corporate culture of producing safe and affordable food for everyone.”
Reach capacity
SSA’s Construction and Development Manager, Lucas Carvalho, explains that Nuova-i enables the company to reach total capacity for the first line, which is 180,000 to 200,000 birds per day. “Next, we have the project for a complete second line with similar capacity. The infrastructure of the whole plant was planned and built for this.” Nuova-i, installed in Nova Veneza, is part of Marel’s innovative vision of poultry processing, featuring advanced, intelligent and digitalized technologies, which reflect SSA’s high standards well.

Towards Industry 4.0
Investing in cutting-edge technology is part of SSA’s strategic development. “For us, the implementation of Industry 4.0 should be all-encompassing. This large project is not limited to innovation but comprises all stages of the production chain,” says Marcel Fogaça. “With Nuova-i we are taking a big step in this direction and speeding up our journey towards Industry 4.0. This will translate into improvements in performance, greater control, and the ability to make autonomous process decisions, in addition to adaptability, which has become essential today.”
He explains that flock variation has been one of the critical problems in the production line and that Nuova-i will allow adjustments to be made according to need. This will improve the process and will impact positively on yield and profitability. “ Certainly, the ability to adjust to individual flocks means an important cost reduction, significantly lowering our operational expenses,” Marcel Fogaça assures.

Consolidated partnership
SSA highly values its partners in its innovation and expansion projects. The collaboration with Marel began in 2011 with the evisceration project in Itaberaí. It was the beginning of a relationship of trust. Since 2018, following the acquisition of the Nova Veneza plant, SSA has been exploring replacement of the current line with a new, advanced technology. Such an upgrade should bring improved process control and transparency.
“Once again, Marel was the chosen partner because it is considered to be a benchmark,” says Marcel Fogaça de Oliveira. Lucas Carvalho adds, “Partnerships are one of the pillars of São Salvador’s growth. Our consistent growth from the beginning has only been possible thanks to solid and reliable relationships. Marel has been a long-time partner. Because we believe in this alliance, we are implementing the project in Nova Veneza with Marel. This trust was not built overnight; over the years, it grew firmly, based on the success of previous projects, such as in Itaberaí.”
Peaceful nights
“For us, working on the factory floor, Marel is synonymous with peaceful nights. Our maintenance team no longer needs to intervene for unexpected downtime,” says Maintenance Manager Claudiney dos Santos Souza. “When equipment performs well with high yields and only requires a few adjustments and with a well-trained team, everything becomes easier. Marel brings robustness, quality and top performance.”
