Tecnopack Univel installed a BOBST flexographic press to increase packaging capacity, improve flexibility and support faster delivery requirements.
Tecnopack Univel Srl, a flexible packaging converter based in Mortara in Italy’s Lombardy region, has invested in a new BOBST VISION CI flexographic press to expand production capacity and improve operational flexibility for smaller order volumes and shorter delivery schedules.
The company produces flexible packaging for food and pharmaceutical applications, supplying customers across Italy and several international markets including Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Central Europe and Eastern Europe.
Part of the Univel Group since 2015, Tecnopack Univel operates a production facility covering approximately 10,000 sqm with 50 employees working across two shifts. Since joining the group, annual turnover at the Mortara site has increased from €6 million to €19 million.
The company’s growth strategy is led by Alberto Nicolini, President and Managing Director, together with Stefano Brognoli, Head of Production, and Paolo Bianco, Head of Business Development.
Increasing flexibility for changing market demands
Tecnopack Univel stated that the flexible packaging market increasingly requires converters to manage smaller production runs while maintaining high print quality and rapid delivery performance.
These requirements have influenced both production planning and future investment decisions. The company needed a press capable of handling a larger number of jobs efficiently without compromising print consistency, operational reliability or flexibility across different substrates and formats.
According to Alberto Nicolini, operational flexibility has become a central requirement for the company’s future growth.

VISION CI Flexo Press
Third BOBST flexographic press at Mortara facility
In 2025, Tecnopack Univel ordered a VISION CI central impression flexographic press from BOBST to add capacity at the Mortara production facility.
The investment followed the company’s previous experience operating two BOBST flexographic presses already installed at the plant. Tecnopack Univel said the existing equipment had demonstrated reliable performance and consistent print quality in daily production.
“We were happy with our existing flexo printing machines, so when we needed to increase capacity, the first option was BOBST,” said Nicolini.
The new press will be used to produce flexible packaging for the company’s core food and pharmaceutical customer base.
Supporting installation and long-term operations
As part of the project, Tecnopack Univel also implemented training and service support packages from BOBST to support installation, commissioning and operational management of the new press.
The company stated that maintaining consistency with existing production equipment offers operational advantages by simplifying machine management and supporting standardized production processes.
“We are experiencing increased demand for small orders and fast deliveries. As a company, we need to be more and more flexible,” Nicolini said.
Tecnopack Univel added that maintaining the existing supplier relationship also supports long-term operational continuity as production volumes continue to increase.
According to the company, if current growth trends continue, the installation of a fourth flexographic press could become part of a future expansion strategy at the Mortara facility.
