ABB deploys digital lab solution for aseptic packaging plant in Egypt

Liquid packaging, paper converting, and food and beverage manufacturing require consistent quality control to meet safety standards and maintain product integrity. In this context, ABB has secured an order from Flex Asepto Egypt for its L&W laboratory testing instruments and Lab Management System, supporting a new aseptic packaging facility in Sokhna, Egypt.

The project represents one of the largest deployments of ABB’s lab instrumentation in the country and supports Asepto’s expansion across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The solution is designed to enhance quality assurance processes through digitalization and real-time data integration.

Digitalized quality management for packaging production
ABB’s L&W Lab Management System collects measurement data directly from connected laboratory instruments and converts it into real-time dashboards and reports. This provides plant operators with immediate visibility into quality parameters, enabling faster decision-making and improved process control.

In aseptic packaging production, where product freshness and safety are critical, the ability to monitor and manage quality data continuously supports compliance with strict industry standards.

Integration of lab data and performance metrics
The system integrates laboratory data with key performance indicators (KPIs), supporting Asepto’s packaging approach focused on preserving product quality, protecting contents and maintaining brand presentation. By linking test results with operational metrics, the platform enables more efficient analysis of production performance.

This integration helps identify deviations early, supporting corrective actions and reducing the risk of quality issues during large-scale production.

Proven technology adapted to new applications
ABB’s L&W instruments have previously been deployed in Asepto’s facility in India, where they have been used for several years. The implementation in Egypt extends the use of these technologies beyond traditional pulp and paper applications into the liquid packaging sector.

This reflects a broader trend of applying established laboratory solutions to adjacent industries, where material quality and consistency remain critical.

Supporting expansion and operational efficiency
The new Sokhna plant is designed as an advanced aseptic liquid packaging facility, producing packaging solutions for dairy products, juices and other beverages. By integrating digital lab management tools, the facility aims to maintain consistent quality while scaling production.

The deployment also highlights the role of digital solutions in improving laboratory efficiency, reducing manual data handling and supporting continuous performance improvement.

By combining laboratory instrumentation with real-time data management, ABB’s solution addresses the need for reliable, scalable quality control systems in modern packaging production environments.
